Marvelous Marvin Hagler

Actor / Former UNDISPUTED World Middleweight BOXING Champion

Marvelous Marvin Hagler ranks among the greatest boxing champions of all time.

Hagler was born May 23, 1954 in Newark, New Jersey. In 1969, a scrawny kid with fire in his heart and desire in his belly walked into the Petronelli gym and the journey began – to the undisputed middleweight championship of the world. For seven plus years, Marvin was the undisputed champion of the hottest division in boxing. His career is an inspiration to all of those who follow the sweet science.

"He is best remembered for his terrific fight with the legendary Roberto Duran, and his spectacular bout with Tommy "The Hit Man" Hearns. The first round was regarded by many boxing fans as one of the greatest in boxing history. Hagler destroyed Hearns in less than 3 rounds, in what Sports Illustrated later called Nine Minutes of Fury." M.G.H.

Marvelous Marvin Hagler’s professional boxing record:

Total bouts-67, Won-62, KO-52, Lost-3, Draw-2.

The losses to Bobby Watts and Willie Monroe and draws with Sugar Ray Seales and Vito Antuofermo were avenged by Marvin – all by KO!

Pizza Hut and Diet Coke are among the many television commercials Marvin has done. His Gillette Sport Stick ad was a huge hit. He is also featured on a Nintendo game. Marvin’s acting credits include Saturday Night Live, Punky Brewster, and 227. He has appeared on television, radio, and in the print media worldwide. Marvin is often seen doing color commentary for major championship boxing events.

Since retiring from boxing in 1988, Hagler has completed work in four movies – INDIO and INDIO 2 shot on location in the Philippines, NIGHT OF FEAR filmed in Moscow, Russia (not yet released), and most recently a feature film made by an Italian company shot on location in Miami, Florida. In this action- adventure, Hagler plays Detective Mike Davis. The movie co- stars Terence Hill. Marvin brings the same discipline and intensity to this work that won him the world middleweight championship – a title he defended thirteen times and held for more than seven years.

Marvin responds to good works. In 1980, he established a scholarship fund at Massasoit Community College in Brockton, Massachusetts. Always true to friends and fans, Marvin readily gives of himself to worthy efforts. A recipient of many, many honors and awards over the years, Marvelous Marvin Hagler was given his greatest tribute in 1993. In June that year, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York.
